Hi and thanks for looking at this post.

I was driving home last night and I started to hear a rattling nosie which I thought was the aircon fan because when I turned it off off the noise went away. So I thought all was well; only for the engine to totally die about twenty miles later - at 60mph... When the rescue chap came out he immediately diagnosed the timining belt had failed.

Now to the point, I had the "chain and adjuster" replaced late October 2007 and have only done 18k since. Is there a chain and a belt and does this sound right? Do I have any claim on the garage who changed it (no mileage entered on receipt)?

    Any advice would be fantastic!

    Kite, that's where I'm confused.
When I bought the car the service book shows that the timing belt had already been changed.
When it went the first time, the garage wrote "chain and adjuster replaced" and I seem to recall being told that it was the rear belt.
It just seems very perculiar that it should go twice in 61k (after it had been repaced once already).

As the belt has to be removed to change the cam chain inside the engine I would expect the cam belt to be renewed at the same time. You will have to wiat until it is srtipped to identify why this happended, it could be the tensioner has failed. Regards Peter
