    Hi All,

I've been a member for a while but never needed to post as my Audi has been faultless up to now!

I ran out of diesel last night (my own daft fault ) in my 98 TDi. After it died, I tried cranking it, so have probably pushed some air round the system. I've put more diesel in and still won't start - it just cranks but won't fire.

I've had a look on the forums but can't see a specific answer. Is there a bleed nipple/nut somewhere on the engine I need to loosen or is there a better way to bleed the system?

    Cheers, Steve

No Bleed nipple as `self purging`.I guess youve used all the fuel out of the filter by now.
I would `cycle` the ignition `on` for a few seconds then `off`.Do this quite a few times and it will get the electric pump in the tank to fill the filter etc.You could help this by either filling the filter with fuel first,or,disconnect the fuel line to the pump from the filter while working the ignition till you see fuel at the filter head.Once done,re-fit pipe and try starting,it will be lumpy once it fires till all the air is out.

    Thanks for your reply.

I ended up loosening the injectors, cranking until fuel started leaking around them then tightened them back up. It then took about 10secs of cranking before it fired - a bit lumpy to start but now runs like a dream again!
