    Hey Guys,
how easy is it to break into a VW POLO MK4. My girlfriends car looks like its been broken into. Theres nothing in there to steal which makes us doubt if they got in. She can't remember if the door was locked or not when she got in.. (???) The barrell has been broken or snapped. Half of it is missing. How much do you think it will cost to repair and are the newer MK5 better protected. Seems pretty bad that a car from 2004 is so easy to break in to. Ah well guess its pretty hard to make an unbreakable car..

    Thanks

    Pudz

you say you think its bad for the car to be easy to break into, but dont know if they got in or not??? i very much doubt they did get in, and highly suspect it would be amateurs looking for something to trash. your car will have deadlock which are incredibly difficult to get past, without the professional knowledge that the likes of an auto locksmith or proper car thief will have. had it been a pro car thief, your car would be gone, end of story. some kid has jammed a screwdriver in the lock in a miserable attempt to get in. credit to the designer of you cars security system, you still have the car.

True, sorry missed a little bit out. The glove box was left open and the manual was on the foot well. The stereo was left in there so maybe if they did get in they were only looking for money...

Guess with an immobiliser its more difficult to drive away...

In terms of thinking its bad for a car to get broken in so easy. I would think the old screwdriver in the lock would not be a option to get into cars for the last few years.. Could be that its just some dumb kids trying to do a you tube video...On the other hand i guess you can't beat brutal force...

they knew what they were doing to get in then. these polos are very difficult to get into without the correct know how. i worked for vw assist, and once took a customer on a round trip of over 100 miles to collect his spare key when the original was stolen. the deadlocks are the problem, very hard to overcome. the thing is, whatever the manufacturers do, thieves find a way around it. if they got into yours, they could get into anything and theres not a lot you can do about it.

Fair point. You always hear of very expensive cars getting stolen and they have the best security in the trade so im guessing a polo twist is a car for the beginners.. Best thing to come out of it is that we have seen a TDI Golf thats she wants so Dealership on Saturday...

far from it, a polo is very hard to get into. you either need to fit some external heavy duty staples with a large padlock, but then they go in through a window, or leave a large aggresive dog in there, that doesnt get much food . a proper car thief can get the kit to break into anything. the only thing to do is leave nothing in the car, and leave the glovebox open with nothing in it. the proper car thiefs will get hold of cars that they can then work out how to get into, then go on a spree. its a game, the manufacturers come up with the latest and best unbreakable system, then the thiefs work out how to break them.

mk4 polos are no better than early vws for resisting people trying to break into them, hence why volksbits sell these

theres also another common method that can be used to get mk4 polo doors open, but i doubt it would be to wise to post a how-to guide up on the net.

best advise you can follow, is to not leave anything in the car you would want stolen. if someone wants to get in your car they will do, regardless of how many alarms and anti-theft devices you fit

those plates are very good. used to have similar on a mk 2 golfy. not so people couldnt get in, but to hide where they previously had. however, those are stated to be a 6n mk4, upto 1999. the op has a mk4 ? 2004. i didnt think the earlier model had deadlocks, hence the need for the plates, but a 2004 definately does have deadlocks fitted.

well i dont know which car they are refering to, as the mk4 (6n) wasnt in production in 2004, im not sure the mk5 (6n) was even still being made by then. would have expected a 2004 model to be at least a 9n chassis
