Passat 2002 Boot

Hi All

Have a 2002 Passat 1.9 TDI, I have got shopping out car tonight and closed boot but its not locked, ive alarmed the car but you can still lift the boot up, looked at the key slot where the sensor is to open book and locked with key but its still not locking the boot, anyone got any idea's as dont feel safe driving it like this.

Also does anyone know how you unlock the car using a key if you have alarmed the car using a key fob, or is it not possible, just worried with this boot problem may effect the alarm in some way?

Can anyone assist with this?
I have read the manual today re the key locking the car, it says you can unlock the car with key and it demobilisers the alarm etc, I assume it also demobilises the immobiliser, anyone know?
Does it also put the alarm back on when lock the car using the key, the manual is so vague, just worried if my handset was to go how I can get in and out the car etc...
Please advise re this and boot please
