    Hi everyone,
I have been trying to find a fault on my Audi A6 but on fitting my scanner I get a link error comeing up.
I have checked the fuse for the conncetion on the car (its ok) and had a look at the wireing at the back of the OBD socket, my car seems to have only three wires at the back of the socket (hard to tell if any are gunged up but non appear green). Uder the dash at the back of the socket there is a bit of dodgy looking added wireing ie a non functional hands free kit probably from the late ninties when the car was made. I have had the ECU out to look at the connections to the said unit and can't see any iffy looking conncetions or evidence of water ingress. Although I cant say what the connections in the ECU box are like (the one fixed down).
THe radio was out on buying the car and had some inventive looking coonections made for an after market CD.
Any idea's I am thinking the connection of the three wires to the OBDII socket may be dodgy but I am not sure how to check these.

    Thanks

What scanner are you using ?

One important thing to know is that the factory wiring to the stereo incorporates a K line for the diagnostics. A bodged aftermarket stereo install can (and has) sent 12v down the data line into various scanners ruining them.

VAGCOM / VCDS (same thing) is the recognised VAG aftermarket scanner and newer leads are protected against this problem.

If I were you I'd contact someone off here who is could scan your car. Look in the vagcom subforum on here for someone who could help.

Exact model and year are required. You may have a can-bus interface. Thus a cable off the net will not communicate with your car. Check on 'Ross Tech' Regards Peter
