    Hi guys,
My wifes 99 Golf is giving me trouble and I have now installed a new throttle body today because I thought the old one was dead. VAGCOM error code is 00282 - Throttle Position Actuator (V60) 26-00 - Output Open and the new one gives the same error. The TBA procedure also fails and shows ADP error.
I have been through the threads because the original problem was an increased tendency to stall especially when cold, sometimes it would hunt with revs going uop to ~1200 and then down until threatening to stall. It became so bad I had to do something.
I purchased a VAGCOM cos I did not want to just replace things and hope for the best. Thats how I ended up with the 00282 error code above.
On the log files I can also see the injection period is about twice as long as it should be - that will explain why its using about twice as much fuel as before. Mixture correction shows -25%. Everything else looks Ok on the logs except filter duty which is at top end of spec (19) and goes as high as 54.
Its the fuel consumption that is the biggest pain to be honest but any ideas as to how I can get the TB working would be most welcome...
    Cheers
    Rob

Have you checked the wiring upto the TB from the ECU and any connectors inbetween?

Thanks for getting back to me.

Before buying the new TB I did check the connector to see if some of the pins had some volts getting to them. They did. That's why I am a bit surprised the new TB still shows the output open error.
Beyond that though I don't know which pins should have power and what voltage...

Have you attempted to put the TB into basic settings?

Generally with a fault code registered, basic settings will not be carried out. What happens with ignition on when you erase the fault code, does it come straight back?

Yes, I have attempted to put the TB into basic settings.

    With ignition turned on.
    I clear the code.
    then go to measuring blocks
    select 098
    then switch to basic settings
    it tries to run ADP
then comes up ERROR after about 5-10secs

    switching back to measuring blocks
look for fault codes and 00282 has not reappeared.

    I do still have
    Address 01: Engine
Control Module Part Number: 036 906 014 CG
    Component and/or Version: MARELLI 4AV 2594
    Software Coding: 00000
    Work Shop Code: WSC 00873
    1 Fault Found
01087 - Basic Setting Not Performed
    35-00 - -

this fault has been there since I first tried the TBA and does not clear.

If I then start the engine I then immediately get code 00282 ie
    00282 - Throttle Position Actuator (V60)
    26-00 - Output Open

    Hi
I know time has passed. I have a similiar problem on our daughters golf. The tickover is fine when the engine is warm. The car has to be started with the throttle slightly open. As the car was running rich, the MOT garage changed the oxygen sensor to enable it to pass. This cured the running rich problem, but the cold start is still there! Tightening the throttle cable has helped a little. Have swapped throttle body, temp sensor, air flow sensor with know working units. No change. On our 'good' golf, if I disconnect the plug to the TB I get the same problem. Maybe a wireing problem.
Did you manage to resolve this problem ?
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
Thanks for the info - just moved house hence the delay in picking up the problem again - I am beginning to think its a wiring problem too - unfortunate because I think it will be a pain to identify where the problem lies unless anyone else has seen the problem?

Thanks too for the note about the mixture being improved by replacing the oxygen sensor - i will give that try!
    Cheers
    Rob

Ignoring the past history of the car, I thought the mixture was possible too weak. Anyway, it failed the MOT on emissions. After the garage replaced the oxygen sensor the car appeared to run smoother - especially on acceleration.
If all goes well this weekend I'll measure the voltages at the throttle body connector on our 'good' golf & mail you the results next week.
You appear to have VAG-COM, where did you get it from & how much?
    thanks
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
I paid £83.95 via matt@mf-racing.co.uk and they were very helpful in getting it working on my laptop.
If you can get me the TB connector voltages that would be great - I will then get mine measured and get back to you.
    Cheers

    Hello Rob
Sorry for the late reply. I think I've managed to upload an attachment showing the connector details? If I've failed or if there are any queries please let me know.

    thanks for the tip
