Scotty it must be a sensor fault ,can you get access to a vagcom and get fault code read?
    Stuart
PS when I say must be a sensor it could obviously also be the lock faulty or a switch related to the lock

The fault has been traced to a faulty sensor in the boot catch, can any one tell me if the hole boot catch unit is the same from a 2002 b6 and a 2005.

I got my new boot catch and while fitting it today,i noticed that the back door was soaked with water, the hose for the rear skoosher had came of.

I knew it had stopped working but thought it was frozen with all the cold weather, and all the time i was trying to use it the water was going into everything in the back door.

I reatached the hose tried it and it worked but still dripped so i smeard tiger seal around the outside of the nozzel and put it back on with a rip tie securing it also for good mesure, cant help thinking it should have been secured properly in the first place.

The latch was caked with rust mildue etc i put the new one on,but i bet if i clean and dry the old one it will work fine think it was the bad conection in the switch due to rust etc

Will clean and keep it i think.

check out the amplifier for the stereo system inside the right grab panel in the boot side they can fill with water after this and will cause the speakers to fail. doesn't happen all the time but it happens

    .

I had an identical problem on my A4 Avant and thought I'd have a quick look on here before I removed the interior panel off the tailgate and got started.

There is a plug which connects to the bootcatch for the interior light operation and it turned out the connections were badly corroded. I simply gave everything a good squirt with WD40 and everything cleaned right up. Reconnected and reassembled everything worked fine again. HOWEVER...

Because I had read about your rear washer hose problems I thought I'd better check mine. There was a visible residue of (luminous green) screenwash around the hose connector and then I noticed faint traces of screenwash residue all over the place (including the aforementioned plug). My problem, however, runs deeper and screenwash is ******* out from the casing of the wiper mechanism when I activate the wash/wipe . Talk about one problem leading to another.

So, if you have problems with your tailgate light switch, check your wiper!!

I think the connectors go when the pressure builds up if the nozzles arent kept clear.Mine opened under the front n/s carpet and when I worked this out and checked it took days in summer weather to dry out.Icheckthe nozzles regularly now they pop off easily and can be cleaned from inside

Yep, gotta agree with Slow74, inside rear panel last year my tube also came off when it froze (bone idleness adding screen wash at correct mix I reckon!) same issue with boot light saying open when it wasn't and alarm sounding. Panel off, re-attached, left it for a few days to dry and never re-occurred again. Ensured the screen wash during winter was a good one reliable for -20 degrees etc. Hope you solved this problem too? Take it easy.
