Passat 2L TDI Turbo Whine

Anyone had any real problems result from a whining turbo?

Mine has a definite, distant siren noise every morning when the engine is cold, which goes away once the engine warms up; it also has a bit of a whoosh when changing gears once it it warm (not loud though).

Is this a sign of turbo problems, or could it be that my oil needs changing?

my 04 plate golf does it (other halfs 57 doesnt) and where i use to work we had a 54 plate passat that done it but nothing ever happened, my golf drives fine no smoke no rattles or bangs, whereas my otherhalfs (its only on 35,000) smokes abit, im not worried about my turbo, im more worried as to why my back seat is damp..... and no the otherhalf hasnt sat in the back lol

Can't be reading all the pages, turbo whine is normal when changing up, it's more of a phish sound though and nothing to worry about, if you should need a new one go to Garrett direct and it'll cost you around £600 - £700 for a new unit.

Hello everybody, I had this siren whine on my 2005 bkp engined passat.Think this is a result of my low oil pressure nightmare last christmas.I channged the turbo myself some 6 weeks ago and everything seems ok at the moment. I got the turbo off global autoparts for £305 exchange all in,had to buy an oil feed pipe,air filter and change the oil (as you would) to make the warranty valid. I bought all the other parts including gaskets and an oil pressure switch which I broke,The whole job came to £507. Proper ball ake of a job but saved myself a fortune.Now I only have the glow plug issue to sort out. This car can only be described as a money pit.

Drop your oil and filter again in 500 miles.

I have just had two injectors replaced and although the car feels great now I have noticed what sounds like turbo whine. It sounds like a siren and I actually almost pulled over for a police car then realised it was coming from my car! I am 100% sure that I couldn't hear this before.
Could this be related to having the injectors replaced or is this just coincidence?

I have a Passat B6 170 bhp and everytime I accelerate I get a whining noise from my wife.

I went to the solicitors and he said it would cost over £50,000 to replace so I think I'll just wait for it to break down and part-ex it for a slightly newer model.
