"these engines will give you hundreds of thousands of miles" would be nice but very unlikely!!!

Just a quick update i've called a turbo specialist and told him about my issues and he has confirmed that my turbo is needing replacement (only £500 reconditioned + Lab) apparently its a very common problem with 3C TDI passats and new variable vane turbo's

I will get my car on the ramp next week will need to do a timing belt, water pump and glow plugs. Will check the wooshing noise i think its a split pipe or a hose.

Btw for information i’ve checked the water pump prices and VW was the cheapest £33 + Vat exchange unit with £40 surcharge (total £73+ vat) which you will get back when return your old unit.

Sh!t, maybe I was wrong then. Maybe german motors aren't the over engineered machines they once were!

I still think that VAG makes the best cars

here is what i've had so far

    VW Passat 1.9 TD 1996
    VW Polo 1.2 2002
    Audi A6 2.5 TDI 1996
    AUDI A4 1.8 T SE 1999
    AUDI A4 1.8 T Sport 2000
    AUDI A4 1.8 T Sport 2000

All cars were great apart from minor problems

Once i've sorted all my problems with my 3c im sure i will learn to love it as well

Mine does this also. at about 2000rpm a "woooooo" sounds as I change from 1-2, 2-3, but not so noticeable at 3-4, maybe due to slightly less turbo pressure at lower revs and low speed. When my windows wound down, it's more like a "Psshhhhhhh" noise.

Had it in the garage under warranty, bottom line, no prob, it's normal just the turbo releasing excess pressure though whatever method.

I hope it wasn't a VAG dealer that told you that. Variable vane turbo's don't have waste gates or dump valves to release turbo pressure. Bit worrying if the dealer thinks it does.

It's the high-tech version of "They all do that, sir".

I have the "whine" as well but I think it sounds like it comes from the end of the exhaust rather than the turbo.
