Buying Advice - 2004 AUDI A6 2.5 TDi 163 Sport

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the site. I am considering buying a "2004 AUDI A6 2.5 TDi 163 Sport" This is my first Audi and would greatly appreciate any advice on what to look out for when I go to look at this car. I appreciate a similar request may have been posted up before, if so could you please direct me to it.

Check for when the timing belt was last changed (should be every 60k or 4 years, whichever comes first).

Check the remote central locking works, and the interior lights work as they should. If you search "Audi A6 damp footwell" you'll find out why they may not work.

CV boots started cracking on mine at circa 70k miles, you're best off checking these otherwise the CV joints will end up dry, resulting in hundreds of pounds of damage and not £30.

Check the ECON light for the climate control isn't stuck on, this suggests a fault in the system. The fix may be as simple as a re-gas.

Use the search box at the top right of the page for "Audi A6 alternator pulley" and you'll see info as to how to check that hasn't failed, assuming the 2.5 TDI uses a similar system to the 1.9 TDI (it may not, so nothing to worry about).

Be careful if it's a Multitronic automatic. They are rather troublesome.
