My 2002 1.8t engine management light came on a month or so ago with the code P0411, Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow, the car never drove any different and after a read up about the secondary air system found out that its not exactly a major fault and doesnt effect the car to much so this wasnt at the top of my "to fix list"
The last few days I realised the car felt different to drive and sounded abit rough, I opened the bonnet and could hear a hissing noise and noticed a pipe that goes into the inlet manifold was split, popped in the fault reader and came up with P0171, System to lean, bank 1.
Fixed this pipe no problem and wiped both error codes.
now i was wondering can these two be related, looking at a diagram of the engine below, you can see the pipe coming from the inlet into "number 23 recirculating valve for turbo" which would cause my P0171, now "23" also has a pipe coming from that into "21 secondary air injection solenios valve"
so.. could that one split pipe cause both faults?

Can you get the fault codes as VAG codes so I don't have to lok them up?

16795 (P0411) - Secondary Air Injection System: Incorrect Flow Detected

Check the secondary air system for leaks by running the SAS pump in output tests (final control diagnosis) and use leak detector spray to check for leaks.

Check the combination valve on thee head using a hand held vacuum pump and with the SAS pump running to see if the valve opens and closes correctively.

16555 (P0171) - Fuel Trim; Bank 1: System Too Lean

I am not sure this code can be generated by this car, VAG’s Guided Fault Finding says not but I am a bit pushed for time. It suggests an air leak so you may have more than one. Did this code return after fixing the air leak? There is a small one way valve on the crankcase vent pipe under the inlet manifold; these are causing a lot of problems on this engine.
