    Hi,

One of my front bulbs has gone on my 54 plate Mk V golf so I'm thinking about upgrading all of them from the standard halogen to xenon bulbs. As far as I can tell, I don't need to convert or change anything other than buying suitable bulbs. Is this correct?

I have a couple of questions about the types of bulbs I need. The one that has blown is an H7 12v 55w one (the "outer" of the two white bulbs). Is the "inner" smaller one an H7 as well? From what I've read, the dipped/low beam and main/high beam are all H7s, so I need two pairs of H7s.

The ones I'm thinking of getting are the Philips X-Treme Power bulbs. Any feedback on these bulbs?

The best price I can find them is £18 a pair from here:

Anyone had any dealings with this website/company? The bulbs seem to be £10+ more elsewhere.

    Look forward to any advice.

    Hoff.

The philips X treme or the osram night breakers are pretty good, you'll certainly notice a difference.

Also, remember one of our foruim sponsers -- Auto Bulbs Direct - https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/f...play.php?f=134

It may be worth calling them to try and get further discount mentioning the forum or price match

Thanks for all the responses. Ordered from passionauto - £54 delivered - for 3 pairs of Philips x-treme H7 bulbs (4 bulbs for the golf, 2 for the octavia).

Will see how it goes when it comes to fitting.

Don't think you'll be disappointed with the results.

I think forum sponser, autobulbs need to give a better discount!

Next business day delivery was by DPD. Bulbs changed without too much difficulty - dipped beams easier than than the full beam. They work anyway but will need to wait til it is dark to see if I can tell any difference with them.

As a side note, the Skoda Octavia was much simpler to fit as the whole headlight assembly comes out (one plastic nut unscrew and a lever tug). Bulb change then a doddle - wish the golf had the same set up. My Octavia pair of H1 X-tremes (for full, dipped are H7s) came too from Regal Autobulbs - £19 delivered plus a free set of Philips W5W bluevision - another cracking deal. Just need to decide if they are going on the golf or the octavia!

After some quick testing last night, the bulbs/lights do indeed look good.

I also took the easy option and fitted the 501 W5Ws into the Octavia. It would be a nightmare to do in a Golf without taking bits off/out of the way.

    Thanks again.

sidelights are easy to change on the golf, unless u got a hoooooge engine.
try changing them in the mk6 or a renault megane. wheel off job!
