So then whats the best stories out there ? Me Ive been pretty lucky 3 points when in london for speeding and then 4 points as I was stopped again a few months after and was going to the 'states on holiday so did not hand my licence in on time - extr point given for being late with the licence. Recently stung with points for using a mobile - on way back from work and passed a cop sitting with my phone against my ear - I let it drop but they spotted me and followed me- pulled me up asked if I had been using the phone I chanced it and said no - they said they had specialist equipment that detected mobile usage, I said what was it and they just smiled and said their eyes.... Ok fair cop. Using the phone and they were on a crack down - normally would have been a chat but this time it was the three points and a fine.
Was out in my wifes lexus just after out daughter was born - took my mother in law back to her house from the hospital and then was on way back home - dark night and I was pushing on but not too hard - mix of single carriageway and dual. Car behind was following but not passing never really gave it too much attention. Came up to a roundabout and turned left while at the'bout noticed that it was a cop car. An astra plod not traffic. Anyways came round and you guessed. lights on and pulled in. Bit of a talking to about speed and country roads. They went round the car and then checked that I was able to drive it insurance wise. No charges and let on my way.
We have a classic car an old 911 carrera 1983. Anyways took it for some fuel and on way back to the house there is a short stretch of dual carriageway and then a roundabout. Its a reasonablely long stright stretch of road afterwards. Came round the roundabout and opened it up a bit noticed traffic cop car (BMW 5 series estate) coming other way who turned around and then came up behind me with lights on. damn it I thought. pulls into layby and the guy got out first thing he said was that it wasnt a traffic stop. Wanted to chat about the car as he had one too. Phew relief ! quick chat and then on my way. Very knowledgable in seemed to be a top bloke.

Back in the days when I had a warrent card. I was called at home while not on duty because of a problem that I had to deal with at work and so I was making progress across another force's patch. Somehow I missed a fully marked up traffic police car and overtook it while riding progressivly and somewhat above the speed limit.
He followed me for about 1/2 a mile before I caught him in my mirrors at which point I dropped back to legal speeds on a hope, but no, just up the road later when it was safe for me to stop the lights came on and we stopped.
"Excuse me sir, the reason we've stopped you is to do with your speed. Do you mind stepping in to my car."
So I get into the car and I'm just reaching for my warrent card hoping to use the "we're all in this toghther, give a coleague a break" line when he points out my speed on the PP. I look at it, and it's a lot lower then I was going, then I looked at him and shared that look of "we both know it was a lot faster than that" and judgment being the better part of valour I decided that 3 points and a £40 fine were entirely reasonable rather than pushing my luck.
Entirely justified points and fine I have to say.
