Yep, I get the same. I just try not to use 2nd when it's cold or go into it really slowly.

It sounds like you might want to do a fluid change. We've had GREAT results with Redline MT. It has allowed for smoother gifts as well as off power/on power throttle mashing. Essentially, Redline MT smooths out gear boxes wonderfully.

On my B6, I had the gearbox changed twice due to crashy gear changes.
My car has just done over 60K, the changes are now starting to smooth out

This seems very common on the 6-speed manual....

My Passat is very notchy from cold, particularly in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, but smooth when warm. It doesn't crunch but it's quite clunky (if that makes sense). I tend to take it slow for the first 5 miles and everything seems to loosen up.

I've done loads of research on this and I still don't know if there is a proper fix. I don't know if it's the gear oil or the synchros at fault (or maybe something else entirely?)

Mines the same, fairly horrid when cold but is fine when warm albeit abit clunky occasionally.

    Glad its not just mine!

I'm also having crunchy feelings when changing to 2nd gear, sometimes when changing to 3rd too. I've always thought that this was due to a cold climate [in Finland ]

But then again is it the cold or should I change the transmission oil? Anyway the car is going for a flywheel operation next week (due to vibrating chassis while idle in traffic lights etc).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance
