    Hi,

Annoyingly, I don't have a handbook for my A4 Avant 1.9 TDI Quattro.. I'm trying to find out what the capacity of my fuel tank is - can anybody help?

I looked on the "tech-spec" section of Auto-Trader which suggested that it's 70 litres but I find that hard to believe!

I ran my car until I had 5 miles range left (according to the "distance until empty" figure on the DIS). I was then able to get 60.8 litres into the tank (it was a freezing cold day!)

I know those "distance until empty" figures cannot be trusted, but surely I can't have had 10 litres left in the tank

    Any insight appreciated!
    Al.

Should be a 60ltr tank with a slight reserve - id say 5ltr. thats what my 2.5tdi quattro is. ive had the trip computer say 0 miles and still done about 5more - i managed to only get about 64ltrs in it then.

So does the Quattro have a smaller tank? I know sometimes with the prop shaft and rear diff can eat into space where the fuel tank is as mine is 70 litres, but it is a FWD and non quattro
A4 Avant 1.9 TDi160 for when the weather is on the damp side - Sold after 9yrs. Now A5 3.0TDI Q Sport Coupe (310bhp/480ft/lbs - Yamaha R6 for when its dry and want some 'High octane Petrol' fun.

    Cheers mate

I've owned loads of Mk.4 Golfs and the ones with 4-motion always have a shallower boot and a smaller fuel tank.
It wouldn't surprise me if Quattro's have smaller fuel tanks - it must have been a challenge for Audi to fit a reasonable size fuel tank round the rear transfer box whilst keeping the exhausts a safe distance away etc!

I promise not to start with the boring diesel talk.. but just wondering whats the best mileage you've had out of a tank a8?

For the first few months of ownership, I only half-filled the tank (I've been very skint!) and based on that, it seemed like I'd get 630ish out of a full tank on motorway drives... but having brimmed the tank last month, I have only managed about 570.. my 3.0 TDI used to do 550 per tank! (probably a slightly bigger tank though?)

520 miles to a full tank but average around 480 but I don't really cover many motorway miles so its just short journeys however I have given mine to the wife (she has packed in working) and I have a van as it makes more sense for my journeys and private jobs.
Since the cold snap my mpg for the journey to work dropped to 36-38 mpg and in the summer that journey will see 40-44mpg.
The escort van covers 120miles to a tenner but it takes for ever to cover 120 miles lol
I will find out the correct capacity but 62 litres sticks in my head

I have TDI Quattro aswell, great all round cars. Think the tank is 66 litres.
I also do between 480-520 miles per tank. summer average around 41mpg winter 35-36ish but i had a dodgy thermostat so hopefully better now.

I'm glad I'm getting the same mpg as these other owners, always nice to know everything is correct! (And I'm remapped)

Well benjie, I bet Quattro was a must-have for you, living in such a mountainous place!

Who did your remap - notice much difference in terms of performance? If so, in what sense - more low-down torque or more power at the top end?

I find there's loads of low-down torque, but it gets a bit breathless at the top-end.
