    Really only the DUU but you will chase your tail around in circles trying to find a box for an AKL, they are such a problem they are in very short supply.

    is it possible to swap the duu gearbox with any that have the codes dus/duw/dlp/ert.

    DUS/DUW will fit but are from diesels and the 3rd/4th/5th gears are different, DLP is fine for an AKL as is an ERT.

    is it possible to take a ERT gearbox from a 54 plate 1.6 seat leon and put it on my 1999 1.6 golf mk4 engine code AKL
    also would it need uprating

    No, on second thoughts and a little more checking I am not 100% sure as a factory original ERT is designed for the small engine 1.6 16v application and uses a different bell housing to the DUU, DUS and DUW but the replacement part number is the same for all so I am a little unsure. I won’t mix and match boxes myself, I will only fit codes VAG decree as being correct.
