hi the temp gauge always drops when i slow down or stop,as soon as the car is moving temp gauge rises to normal position, took it in to garage and they said it could be the gauge itself as engine runs fine.

You need to be a little clearer here. When you say it drops when driving, where is it dropping from, above 90 or below 90. Dropping from 90 when slowing down is the wrong way around, it would fall when driving if it was the thermostat stuck open or rise above normal if the water circulation (i.e. One of the pumps) was at fault. The gauges are hopelessly inaccurate, if you were to separately observe the temp senders actual location points temperature, the location is about 77 degrees when the gauge reads 90 and the gauge still reads 90 when the location is at 117 degrees on an overheating engine. A faulty cluster (quite a common issue) would not behave like that in my experience so the first thing I would do is the cheap and easy option, fit a new sender and see how it behaves. The coolant temp sender 2000 onwards (059 919 501 A) is hopelessly unreliable.
