I would suspect a low voltage spike when cranking the car over.
You might have a failing battery..

Hi, I've got a similar problem on my A4 TDi, it started off with the ABS and traction control lights coming on last week, and then the other day it was joined by a flashing glow plug warning light. After checking the forum it seems likely that my problem is caused by a faulty brake light switch on the brake pedal. After checking out the brake lights, heh presto none of them are working. The Glow plug light would only start flashing after pressing the brake pedal. I am going to look into replacing the brake light switch tomorrow. Hope this helps?

Before spending time and money swapping parts I would have the car scanned with a vag com and see what it shows. This particular issue can be caused by a handful off issues and including any 1 of the 4 abs speed sensors.
