Greetings, I am a regular in the golf section so excuse me butting into the passat section for a mo.

I am looking for a bigger car and i dont want to move away from vw. I have a limited budget of £7k and i have come across this.

    2006 56' Passat 2.0TDI, 136000mls, Black, Highline.

this mileage is INTERGALACTIC! but after doing some reading i have heard that they go for 200k+. It has a full VW history and at 101000 a replacement engine which should make me happier but should i shell out £7250 for this motor or should i wait till prices drop, or fork out a bit more cash or shall i get a lesser spec (1.9 TDI 105).

    Thanks for any advice.

Having just recently got rid of a B6 55 reg 146k Passat Sport 2.0TDI 140 a couple of months ago, which I had from new, I'd be fairly careful. They don't seem to be as good as the older B5/B5.5 passats as far as wear and tear go, and in my experience need far more money throwing at them to keep them going, and I really looked after mine throughout it's time with me.
I wouldn't hesitate about purchasing a B5/B5.5 with this mileage, but I would think twice before a B6 at this price with that mileage.
I'd want to buy from a VW dealer, to get the better warranty, recovery etc, but knock them down in price considerably.
At 146k mine needed a new turbo (quoted £1748 from VW), a cam belt change and full longlife service (£750 ish). It was a company car and my boss didn't want to spend the money on it so it's now gone.
It also depends on how many miles you're going to put on it. If you only do 5k a year for example, a high mileage car may make sense, but if you do 20k a year budget for some bills in the near future, plus the greater depreciation.
I think if you're prepared to wait a far lower mileage one with much cheaper price will come along. Good luck with your car hunting.

Price is way to high. Keep watching autotrader. A couple of traders on there sell ex company cars at good prices. You should be able to get a 55 or even 56 plate passat with 100K miles for about £5000 cash. I would always go that route and stick the extra £2000 in the bank for when it goes wrong.

I think the one you are discribing has been on sale for a some time..
I would give it a miss..
    they say new engine etc..
I bet they still used the original head and injectors..
and I would never buy a car with a tow bar fitted but that just me..

I'd rather offer 7k for this

    http://ma-motors.co.uk/index.php?opt...d=30&Itemid=55

However i'd probably stick to a 1.9 on a high miler but i'm biased.
