Anyone had problems with vr6's not idling?- mine has been playing up on and off for the last couple of weeks, sometimes it will start and run as normal then other times you have to keep blipping the throttle to keep it from stalling then when driving and the engine has semi warmed up the revs are surging from 2k to 1k at junctions etc.If it is switched of and left for a short while then it seems to start as normal. Is there a cold start sensor or something that could be at fault.
Also did a fault code scan and it brought up 00268- fault solenoid valve, only info i have found on this relates to auto transmission valve but mine is a manual ! Confussed.

Which year? If it is a 95, I will need the full chassis number or reg number but send this by private message, do not post it.

Yes, 00268 is an auto box fault code so the scanner you are using is not providing the correct info.

Just using the Autel maxiscan VAG405 - I realise it isnt as accurate as probably vag com or similar but hs usually proved to be ok in the past.Had a quick look this afternoon at various possibilities, what effect would the pcv valve have if this was faulty or gummed up?

The PCV valve tends to split open and can cause idle problems. The small pipe to the PVC can also split. You need to know what that code really is, it could be the reason.

Thanks for the info - Just been looking on some US forums and have seen quite a few post about secondary air injection valve - do UK cars have this or is it just something to do with their strict emmisssion controls?

Yank Golf 3 VR6’s are Mexican built and completely different to ours. No the Golf 3 VR6 for Europe does not have SAI, which is one reason why it is not OBDII like many try to insist it is. OBDII cars have after cat lambda and an engine MIL.

Often wondered what the differences between OBD1 & 2 where, there seems to be some confusion on various sites insisting that 1996 onwards is OBD2, clearly not the case!.

I think what people think makes a VR6 OBDII is the OBDII style diagnostic plug but then Polo’s had that from 95 and they aren’t OBDII. When people insist the car is OBDII, I ask them (if they have VAG-COM) to click on the Readiness code and see what message comes up. They don’t ever seem to come back when they see the not OBDII compatible message come up.
