Hi all, new to this forum and have a problem with my Audi that seems to be a regular issue, it is running cool, takes a long time to warm up and never gets to proper working temp. The cam belts et al were recently changed and when I asked about the cool running was told that it was probably a sensor (read that one a few times on this forum).
Is it possible to change the thermostat myself? Can anyone shen any light on the location of the thermostat?
    Thanks in advance!

On the right hand bank behind the timing belt, it is almost impossible to do the job without removing the belt. I always fit a new genuine thermostat when doing the belt on these and a new pump.

I have just changed the thermostat on my 2.5tdi AKE engine and the bolts that hold the thermostat cover plate are accessible without removing the cambelt. You will need to remove the auxiliary belts and possible the alloy carrier for the aux belt pulleys. You may manage to wangle the thermostat plate out past the cambelt or maybe just slacken the cambelt tensioner without having to remove the belt.

    Cheers and good luck

Hi, Did you remove the front end of the vehicle as the manual suggests or did you do it some other way?

Front end needs to come forward. You dont actually need to remove it completely. If you can get good access from under the vehicle then you can remove the nuts at either side of the front bumper without having to loosen off the splash gaurds. Once you have all the bolts out that hold the front panel which houses the radiator, you can pull it forward and let it droop as it is still attached by the coolant pipes and the intercooler pipes at both sides.

If you have the service position bolts you can slide it forward on these but you can get more room to work by leaving the front panel hanging. Check out the laser tools website as some of their timing kits have the bolts contained in them. GSF sell laser tools.

Hope this helps anybody with Thermostat probs and there is a few out there by the looks of things

    Cheers

    Graeme
