    1) Use rocker switch on the end of the wiper stalk to select "Speed Warning ---" from the dash display.

    2) Hit the button on the bottom of the wiper stalk to edit the speed warning feature. On hitting the button your current speed is shown on the display.

    3) Use the rocker switch to increase or decrease the desired limit. This allows you to set a limit of 70mph when only travelling at 50mph etc.

    4) Press the button on the bottom of the wiper stalk to save the desired speed and activate the feature.

Now whenever your speed rises above the entered level you will get a bing from the dash and an onscreen warning.

I tried the above on a road trip yesterday.

    Hope this helps.
this is what doesn't work for me. B*gger!

Indeed - when I use the button to select the current speed then use the rocker button it just moves on to the next option in the menu, eg mpg, distance covered, or whatever.

Mr aperson, when you're in the speed warning section then how do you move on to another section, because normally that would be done using the rocker button - as seems to be the case with myself and kipperhill - but if it works as you say it does then you shouldn't be able to move out of the speed warning section?

    Hi Stuart,

I use the rocker switch to scroll to the Speed warning feature. Once this is shown on the display I hit the button on the bottom of the wiper stalk to access the Speed warning feature. At this point I can then use the rocker switch to increase or decrease the warning limit. Once I select the desired warning level I then use the button on the bottom of the wiper stalk to save/activate the feature and return to the main menu. The rocker switch allows me to view the average MPG etc. At this point the Speed warning is still active and will sound when the set speed is reached.

    Hope this helps,

    Alan

Hmm, how strange - it is your step 3 that refuses to work on my 06 estate. Mine is an SE.

I have tried everything so I have now given up. Thank you for replying though.

this is simply not working for me either. it's not something i'm worrying about, but next time i visit the independent garage, I may ask what the problem may be. Is it something VAG-COM related I wonder? Not programmed correctly or something like that... Just like everyone else, if I use the rocker switch after pressing the button, I go to miles left/average consumption etc...

Having had my Passat 170 Estate for 3yrs now I have never really bothered with this either. However I must have accidentally set this option yesterday and had to get the book out to see how to stop the annoying `boing` at 55mph. When I first heard it I thought I was going to see an engine fault displayed!! Of course I then played and it all worked as aperson described earlier. The only addition is that when stationary it initially displays 20mph & the button at the end of the wiper stalk can only increase it. So you cant have a speed exceeded warning below 20mph..not a major worry !!!

This doesn't answer your question but thought I'd say it anyway:

I've done nearly 100k in my passat and I've used the speed warning thing once. It's utterly pointless and in my view is only there because it's easy to do and at almost no cost to put it in the software.

If you're in a speed restricted area, set cruise control (particularly useful on average speed camera traps, like on the M25 road works). The rest of the time I believe you should know what speed you're doing. In any case, it's not a speed limiter, it's just a warning; pointless. If it was a limiter, then it would be good.

I'll definitely go with that. Waste of time.

Same for me - I have a 06 estate Sport; have found it pointless that I have to drive at the speed I want to be warned about first!
