    Hi

I have an SE without MFD or steering wheel controls, and just the half sized dash display.

To set the speed warning, the manual says press the button under the indicator stalk when driving at the speed you want the warning. It also says I can hit the rocker buttons to increase or decrease this, so long as I do so within 5 seconds. I can set the speed warning, but then cannot adjust using the rocker buttons - this doesn't work at all.

Seeing as I want to set the warning at a speed I never want to hit - this is very annoying!

    Any ideas...?

    Cheers

i'd also like to know how this works - i thought about it a while ago when I had just received the car (same spec as yours), and I too thought it foolish to have to drive at the unsafe speed before setting the speed warning. surely you can just set it to (say) 45 when you're still driving at 40?

    any help would be appreciated.

Its pretty rubbish if I remember correctly, but press the up/down rocker switch on the end of the wiper stalk until you see "SPEED WARNING ----" and then press the button on the bottom of the wiper stalk repeatedly until you see the speed you want.

I set mine to 100mph, just for something to do.

I do remember there was something funny about though. Will try it again.

It's the rocker buttons I cannot get working - it works by hitting the button when you are doing the speed you want to be warned about

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but are you confusing the speed warning thing with cruise control?

I must admit this is what I thought when I read the thread.

Seeing as I want to set the warning at a speed I never want to hit - this is very annoying!
Switching the cruise control on will set it to the current vehicle speed, where as selecting max speed option will result in either appear as "select" in the display if not previously set, or the max speed if previously set.

The only time the current vehicle speed would appear in the max speed setting is by coincidence i.e. if your current vehicle speed just happens to be the same as was previously stored as the maximum speed.

No - Cruise Control works fine.

It is the speed warning - I can only set it when travelling at the speed I would like the warning to go off at - the log-book/manual states I should be able to use the rocker buttons on the stalk to set the speed warning higher or lower than the speed I was travelling, but I cannot get this to work.

Can anyone without MFD or steering wheel controls confirm whether they can do it?

    Cheers

I've never been able to set it using the rocker button either - if it does work as stated then the manual instructions are certainly far from clear.

As KP says the only way to set the speed seems to be to actually attain it, which as he says may well defeat the purpose of the warning.

Rather than enhancing safety it could actually detract from it, at least if the amount of fiddling about with it I had the other night is anything to go by

I have a 2006 Estate Passat S model with the standard trip computer. To set the speed warning do the following: -

    1) Use rocker switch on the end of the wiper stalk to select "Speed Warning ---" from the dash display.

    2) Hit the button on the bottom of the wiper stalk to edit the speed warning feature. On hitting the button your current speed is shown on the display.

    3) Use the rocker switch to increase or decrease the desired limit. This allows you to set a limit of 70mph when only travelling at 50mph etc.

    4) Press the button on the bottom of the wiper stalk to save the desired speed and activate the feature.

Now whenever your speed rises above the entered level you will get a bing from the dash and an onscreen warning.

I tried the above on a road trip yesterday.

    Hope this helps.
