    Hi there,

    This is my first post.

My wife has just bought a 99 LHD New Beetle in the UK.
We'll now be spending significant amount of time in France and I've noticed that with the lights as they currently are set to RHD there's poor visibility at night on the right hand side of the road and even with the lights lowered to their maximum - oncoming motorists are flashing us. This is not really ideal.
Can I change the headlights over to LHD without having to buy new units?

    Cheers in advance,

    Enty

    Thanks for the reply Kenney.

After much hard work this afternoon I managed to remove one of the headlight units but couln't see anything obvious which would swithch the lens from RHD top LHD.

Have you done this before Kenney? It's a 1999 New Beetle.

You will also need to change the rear fog light and reversing light in order for the car to pass the Controle Technique (French equivalent of MOT).

Unfortunately you will need to buy/obtain them for a LHD car because your LHD car would have had to have had them changed to pass the original MOT in the UK.

I know because I have been there. Also bought LHD headlights before I found the little levers!!

Drove in the dark last night - Perfect!

    Thanks for the info.

I think I'll be ok with the Fog and Reverse lights as they are both the same shape and should just swap over - hope it isn't to difficult to get the wires across.

    Hi Enty
Yes that's what I thought! But good old VW couldn't even get that right!
Have a look on eBay Germany for some.

    Hi there,

Are you saying I definitely need new lights?
And is there a problem getting the wires to the opposite side?

    Cheers again,

    Enty
