Can anyone tell me where the oil pressure sensor can be found, on a 2001 2.5tdi?

My low oil pressure warning light has now come on 3 times whilst driving, in the last 2 months. If I turn the engine off then restart then the light stays off.

    Thanks Mand

    depends which engine you have.

if you post that somebody will help you

if you have a 1.8T, it is likely to be the pickup filter clogging up though

The oil pressure switch is located inline on the turbo oil supply pump.
Oil pressure at idling speed: at least 0.8 bar
Minimum oil pressure at 2000 rpm: 2.0 bar
Oil pressure at higher engine speeds: max. 7.0 bar
If you find the pressure is fine but consumption is high then replace the oil filter module due to the leaf spring valve sticking causing the returning oil to enter the inlet manifold which then combusts when induced. Also consider internal wear mainly the oil pump or sticking oil ring but if consumption/pressure is ok then look at the wiring to the oil pressure switch and possible dash insert issue or even the switch

    Thanks a8 Tech.
I have no consumption probs. Going to have the switch wiring and switch itself looked at first.
Do you know if changing oil type could cause an intermittent pressure drop?
First 90k miles were on long life oil, then last 30k miles on vw synta 'normal'oil. The light seems to come on when oil temp gets to around 90 degrees - hard to get that hot at the moment though,

Interesting, but I suppose the easy answer is to return to long life.Myself and Crasher recommend longlife oil even if you are running the time and distance regime. As the oil consumption is fine and no engine noise then as this is intermittent I would recommend connecting vag com whilst driving and checking the oil pressure reading in the dash (address 17) go to measured value block 03 from memory. If the pressure reads ok when the light comes on the dash is defective if not trace the wiring to the switch or drive around with a dial gauge oil pressure tester
