I have posted this on the Polo forum but not yet received any responses and was wondering if any of you Golf owners can help.
I am looking to buy the new VW Polo and I am considering the RNS310. Iwas wondering whether it is worth the extra money over the non sat nav version. How is everyone getting on with the RNS 510? Are there many differences between the RNS310 & 510? Is it true the sat navs only have 5 digit postcode entry, is this a let down after owning a tomtom?
I would be grateful for any feedback!

RNS 510 is great - well worth the money if you can afford it.
The postcode system works differently to Tom Tom but it is just as easy entering an address, and the fact it is built in makes it much easier to read while driving than normal sat nav (at least on the Golf with the Highline computer - check if its the same on the Polo).

IMHO I wouldn't waste your money on it. It's great if you want to go to a private address, that's in a established road, with house numbers, or a point of interest. And that's about it.
If you want to go to an address without house numbers, it'll get you to the road only, at best, then you're on your own. If the road is several miles long, then you may have a problem, as it says you've arrived, when you clearly haven't, whereas the TomTom will get you there using full postcode.
I use my car mainly for business, and many of my customers are on new industrial estates, or newish public roads, which the VW/Audi systems just don't recognise at all, so it can't take you there, as the map is out of date immediately, but with full postcode on TomTom it always gets me there, regardless of the age of the mapping, as postcodes rarely change, if at all.
I have a new Passat with RNS 310 arriving in January, only because my company car policy says it must be built in. Currently using an Audi A6 with factory sat nav, Audi version of VW system, and it's let me down badly several times, and the car is only just over a year old. I always have my trusty TomTom beside me. Once the Audi system got me 18 miles away from where I should have been.
Having said that, it's great not to have wires over the dash, and not having to worry about taking it with you, but that's about it.
No point having a 1.5k option if it doesn't do what it claims to do. Note that VW now clearly state it doesn't accept full postcode, as they've had so many complaints. Germany only uses 5 digit postcode system, as do the USA with their zip codes - seems the UK is the only problem.
dotaz in the post above says enter an address, but if it doesn't recognise the address, you not going to get there.
If it had full postcode facility, it would be fantastic.

I'd be tempted to stick with the 310 and get an expensive TomTom - I've always found that inbuilt SatNavs have their limitations (as above). The 310 is ok for what it is - perhaps you could consider a speaker upgrade if you want better sound (is that an option in a Polo?)
