When I ordered my Golf in January, I hesitated about whether or not to have the winter pack. In the end, I thought as it was the car I would drive for many years, I'd go for it......and I'm so glad.

With a temperature of -5 this morning, I cleared the snow off and the TDi fired up first turn as I'd expect. But the heated washer jets...what a brilliant idea and well worth having, as are the comfy heated seats.

If anyone is thinking of getting the winter pack, I'd definitely recommend it

I was umming and ahhing about it, I eventually got the dealer to go halves with me on it, and I am SO glad I did. As you say, the heated washer jets are great and the seats are fantastic.

Not wanting to burst anyone's bubble but the cunning design of the washer jets and some decent washer fluid has ensured that I've been able to clean the windscreen all this week even down to a -2 low.

I'm sure the heated seats are great but some good washer fluid seems to sort out the washer jets okay!

Yeah same for me. I've never had frozen washers. Probably due to the fact I use a good concentrate of washer fluid at this time of year.

Anyone know what part is actually heated? Is it the washer bottle or the actual jets or both? It kind of defeats the purpose as you will have to have a good concentrate of washer fluid in it surely or it would just freeze up overnight when the car is sitting not having the fluid heated!!

Think it's the jets themselves - which validates your point - the other issue is what happens when the spray hits a freezing windscreen?, given that it takes about a week for the heater to work in in a diesel
why do so few manufacturers offer heated windscreens - had one in a focus once and it was amazing

That's been discussed before - Ford own the patent on the heated windscreens at the moment so it's generally only available on ford group cars or anyone willing to pay them licencing fees!

amazing - I always thought it must be something like that - but what a daft deal for the designers (unless they got the proverbial king's ransom for the copyright) - seem to recall heated screens first became available on Granadas in the late 80's - how many millions of sales could they have had since then?
believe me once you've experienced a heated windscreen it would be first pick on the options list every time

The only problem I find with them is that in certain lights (especially at night) I get a bit distracted by the pattern the windscreen makes on the lights from other cars - I'm sure it's something you probably get used to though.
