I'm going to be taking my car up to get the front tyres done shortly - 19500 miles on a pair of fronts which I think isn't too bad - especially as it's on the low profile 18"s.

It's a company car, so I've got to use Kwik Fit (unfortunately), but I do wonder how much it'll cost as it's the lease company that decides the tyre cost - God knows what I'll get...

ETA - that should, of course, read "Not bad" - not "No bad"...

What make do you get originally?

I think that's very good wear, I estimate about 10,000 miles to wear down to 3mm for my Bridgestones, at which point I'll change.

They were Dunlops - not sure what's on now as it's dark - Continentals, I think.

Not cheap though at £195. Each. The cheapest was £150 - each....

Seems steep to me as the last pair of tyres I bought were £60 for a pair of fronts for the Honda Jazz - and the time before that was £120 for the pair of fronts for the Passat (Maxxis Z1s)

Yes, you're right there, but it still seems steep as I remember paying about £100 (each) for some Eagle F1s for my Leon FR on 17s a couple of years ago...

I'd agree about the mileage - definitely falls into the not bad category - esp given the type /size of tyre - good job it's a company car though as 18'" ers are pretty much guaranteed to be pricy

An often overlooked downside of the fashion for bigger wheels/lower profiles is that the cost of replacing them seems to go up logarithmically - and as far as I'm aware you can't opt out of them when buying high spec models

call me an old fart but my SE with 205/55 16's is good enough for me !

Kwik fit are a rip off, although they generally will price match. However, you're choice is dictated by the lease company allowance and the discount they have with KF.

You should be able to get top brand 225/40/18s (i'm guessing the tyre size !) for £160 or less.

20k miles is quite possible if you do lots of motorway miles - i get 17k froma set of 19" rears on a Boxster that sees very little motorway use, and lots of stop/start/roundabouts etc.
