Hi

I recently took receipt of a mk VI Golf 2.0 TDI GT, which I'm very pleased with. Compared to my last car, a mk V Golf 2.0 TDI Sport (56 plate), the mk VI feels lighter and more nimble, so I wondered what the differences in kerb weight are between the two models. So I looked in the ebrochure for the mk V that I still have and it says that the kerb weight for my last car is 1451 Kg. It states that this kerb weight is with a 90% full fuel tank and no driver. However, the manual for my new car states that its kerb weight is 1351 Kg (with the CFFB engine), and that this is calculated with a 90% full fuel tank AND a 68 Kg driver plus 7 Kg of luggage.

If I'm interpreting these figures correctly then it seems that the Golf 2.0 TDI shed a significant amount of weight (175 Kg !) between these two models. That's an awful lot of weight, so I figured that I must be missing something. Interestingly, the mk V Sport and GT models were replaced by a single GT Sport model in 2007, and the kerb weight for the MK V 2.0 TDI GT Sport is given as 1281 Kg on the Parker's website. So was there a significant reduction in the weight of the mk V 2.0 TDI PD engine (presumably to reduce CO2 emissions) in 2007? It's all a bit confusing!

Any advice of how to interpret and compare these kerb weights would be much appreciated!

Many thanks
