A4 cab 3.0 sport (03 plate) on full lock, when driving slowly like in a car park or something, theres a wierd juddering noise and a judder of steering wheel, almost as tho your driving on a flat tyre, not a metal on metal sound, but the feeling of a flat (checked all 4 tyres pressures all fine), theres also a squeal on ful llock, been told this is probably power steering pump and its not uncommon, any idea about the judder?

    thanks in advance

Hi Glen, assuming you are quattro with that 3.0 it is quite normal to get a dull rumbling feeling on full lock at low speeds ie; car parks, pulling out of junctions etc.
You wouldn't be wasting your time inspecting bush's ,roll bars/link arms c/v joints and joints etc as a matter of course and even 4 wheel tracking.
If all the above checks appear to be sound dont worry,my 3.0 quattro did this and countless other quattro drivers will tell you similar stories,as this topic has been covered many times
    Good luck

My 1.8T quattro s-line 190 also does this, i have come to the conclusion its related to wide tyres and full lock, the tyres skip across the road, it seems worse when it's cold and the rubber is harder, take it slower on tight turns and it's a lot better. In my opinion nothing to worry about, by the way, just had a 4 wheel alignment at audi and no different.

It's not just Quattro that do it!!

It's just Audi's over complicated front suspension!!! Mine bugs me a little and eats tyres!!

I think Audi's should come with quattro as standard as the grip on FWD is a bit cack. I get wheelspin in 3rd gear on the motorway, before the snow!! OK yes mine is a remapped diesel!

Same here but my 3.0 quattro has never had this juddering problem before, im going to top up the power steering fluid on Monday as its on min and if that dont help then it off to Audi has to be something wrong somewhere.

My 2.5 TDi Cab is doing this. It feels worse in the winter with reduced grip, especially in wet or frosty car parks. My front tyres had worn the inner and outer edges so got a basic wheel alignment check that confirmed the toe-in was OK, but as we all know, these are much more complicated than that. I booked it in for a 4-wheel alignment at Audi dealer and they took a look and said it wasn't needed and just blamed the tyre wear on under inflated tyres and going round roundabouts too fast.
I have Michelin PS2s on it and they do look a little flat when stationary yet they're at the correct pressures as stated in the car + a couple of PSI. I'm wondering if it is worth putting a fair bit more air in them.

    Mark.

The juddering is nothing to be worried about. it may be more apparent in the wintry weather due to less grip, but mine is like this when its wet or wintery. Reason for this is there is a 40:60 power split biased towards the rear, ie the rear wheels push more than the front. when you put a full lock on the rear wheels are trying to drive the car straight forward while the fronts are trying to pull and turn the corner, the result is the front wheels skip slightly until some of the lock is reduced.
Most permanent 4wheel drive cars suffer from this.

Depends on the judder, if it is not the 'normal' judder you get with the quattro, it may be the issue I had which was the power steering pump tensioner which was at fault, which was causing judder at the steering wheel and quite noisey.

It got replaced and all was fine again.

Hope this helps, just my experience.
