I asked a man who knows a bit about cars and he says that spraying wd40 into the lock might wash out the 'white grease'. I am right in thinking though that if my locks are frozen solid (which they are), then there is no white grease left anyway?

I don't know anything about white grease but my locks have been freezing up every morning for the last few weeks. A couple of days ago I gave them all a good squirt of wd40 and they've been fine ever since. I'd just do it

Think i may have a similar problem... Have a R reg.. When unlocking from the drivers side the central locking works, all locks things (dont know much car lingo, i do apologise) go up, all the doors successfuly open except the drivers side...which will not open from inside or out... I agree that the climbing in though the passenger side isnt the best look!
... I think this is to do with cold but why just drivers side? also.. when it is very cold, when i activate the central locking from the dirvers side all the four windows roll down!?!?! they go back up fine when car starts so no problem with the window mechanism it seems. my car just seems to have a mind of its own!?!? Polterguist Golf! Am baffled as my knowledge is extremely basic. Any tips would be hugley apprechiated : )

I have had issues with my front electric windows. I know a guy who used to have a VR6 same as mine and he had the problems too. He gave me a can of 'switch spray' and said drop the door cards off and go at the switches with the spray as this sorted his problems. This might sort the problem with your windows opening. I take it you are aware that you can get out of the car with any of the windows open and when you lock the car, if you hold the key over in the locked position, it closes all the windows?

The lock problem you have with drivers door is the same as mine and I'm gonna take door cards off and lube up any moving parts in and this should sort it so I'd do the same.

Excuse me mate... can you run that one by me again please? I'm aiming at the window closure part of your comment. Does that apply to all Golfs? If so, what do you need to do exactly cus i'm on my second Golf and i never knew you could do that!

    Cheers, HBK

    Hi Mate

Might just be VR6's but on mine when you lock the door (which is turning the key to the left), if I hold the key to the left until the central locking noise has stopped and hold it there, then all the windows will close. Good eh?

    Cheers

Hmmm, interesting. I'll have to get the snowplough out and get to my doors and see if it works on mine... but that'll probably be in about a fortnight the way it's hammering it down!

    Thanks guys, HBK
