Ok my Dad right has always been a Ford fan... He currently has a 2001 Y Reg Mondeo which he bought brand new but now its starting to fall apart.

I twisted his arm into getting a VAG car and guess what I managed to get for £4,000:

    2002 VW Passat B5.5 2.0 SE Petrol (20v)
    52,000
FULL VW Main Dealer Service History
    6 Months Road Tax
    10 Months MOT
    12 Month Warranty

Found it at a Jaguar main dealer in Watford, they took it in part exchange... I think it was a cracking deal.

Car is clean and spotless and he drives less than 3,000 miles a year so it should last him for a while!

Indeed... Picked it up yesterday and it drives smoother than my A4!

This is my first VAG car too and i'm loving it so far! I have no particular brand loyalty though so if something better comes along in my price range when I look to swap my car in three years, I shall go for that.

The problem with brand loyalty is that it starts at the new end of the market, and is therefore highly dealer dependent.

I love Audis, but my experiences with the dealers have left me rather cold.

Mind you, I still replaced the family car with an Audi this year...

I have not really had any issues with the Audi dealership.
    BMW were fine too.
    Mercedez-Benz are awful.

The BEST service I have to say has been Ford in the past, cant fault them on their customer service

I totally agree on the brand loyalty being dealer dependent.

BMW were excellent, just a bit pushy.
Volvo compared every other car I was looking at to theirs and it just seemed a bit false after a while
Lexus was a bit moody with me saying "we'll only let you test drive the car if you buy one"
The Mercedes dealer was so bad I will now never look at buying a Mercedes again. I'm sure they can do without my business too, but they did lose out on a 50k sale because of how they treated me. Still annoys me to this day. In fact I made an official complaint to Mercedes UK about the dealership in question.
The Audi dealer was the only one who let the car do the talking to be honest.
