this might seem a silly question to those with experience, but I can't find a specific reference in the forums.
When you get a dashboard warning light, (in this case ESP), will the light go if the fault is cleared, or does it need resetting by diagnostic tools?
    Ive got a golf v 1.9 tdi on a 55 plate.
thanks in anticipation of a reply

you can get the light turned off and cleared ,not using a vag com.i done this with a passat i had a few years back, but if you do not fix the fault thats causing the light to come on,it will keep flagging back up this used to last for about 2 weeks then the light would come back on.

thanks to nc7503 for response, but you don't actually tell me if the light will go automatically if the fault is cleared.

    Hi stewy,
the warning light I have is a constant esp warning in the dash, and also shows "esp off" at the switch in the centre console.
I've researched this and other forums, so I know some of the possible causes, but the day after the light came on I had a puncture and this can unbalance the system triggering the alarm. I know I'm grasping at straws, but I keep hoping it isn't the abs pump module.

    cheers, zillfish
