Hi mate, what type of gearbox is it, Auto or manual? and what type of engine do you have at the moment? Unless your engine is screwed too It would be pointless changing it if you can just replace the gearbox or just replace the gearbox and sell the car and buy a car with the engine you want. Unless you are replacing engine like for like you are going to have all sorts of problems with wiring looms, fuel pumps, ECU's then everything will need to be paired up via vagcom, Nightmare!

    Hi Martin,
Thanks for the advise, i'm using A4 b5 -(a) year 96 mileage about 200k. What you said it's true as in future problems as in wiring and etc..... Just check the gearbox cost is about RM3.6k

That price must be for a new or reconditioned box!! Hit the yellow pages there must be loads of scrap yards with accident damaged A4's out there. Ebay might be worth a look as well. what condition is the car in? If it is immaculate it is worth sticking a second hand box in but if it is ropey with dents and poor interior condition I would stick it on ebay for sale needing a gear box and get a bit of cash back towards a newer lower mileage model. Good luck!
