fitted a retro fit cruise control to my vw golf mk4 year 2001. GT TDi 115 PD.
cruise control does not work, its been activated through vag-com and when you turn it on the green light comes on but speed cant be set. also after fitting the cruise control and putting everything together i discovered the traction control constantly on. everything was fine before, any one got any ideas!!

I would double check the wiring you installed. Also, just incase you don't know, the set speed is cancelled by a switch on the clutch and brake pedals. If either are faulty, you'll not be able to set a speed. But as you have a different problem since you installed it, I think it must be something there. Have any codes been thrown up?

thanks for the info. i solved the traction control problem. the light was on because after removing the steering wheel i did not put it on in the exact position e.g. the would take one and half turns on steering wheen to the right and two and a half turns to lock it to left. as soon as i took it back off and put it on the right way the traction control light went off but cruise control still never worked.

Then i called a friend and we ran the car on vag-com and found the clutch pedal switch was faulty!! i got a new one from dealer for £12 and whooopie it works now.

my advice to you is if the light comes on and speed cant be set more than likely your clutch pedal switch or break pedal switch is faulty. mine did same and i changed clutch pedal switch and now it works perfect!! the reason speed cant be set is becasue the switch is telling the car the clutch or break is contantly down, hence this is why you see people driving with their rear break lights on contantly lol....
