Would you go for the 1.4 tsi (122) or 1.6 TDI? It will be a DSG. Not fussed about fuel economy either. I just need to make sure i made the right choice in the 1.4 TSI.

Build date is 1st week Jan, and no dealer seems to have a 1.6tdi for test drive in Birmingham! test drove the tsi for abt 5 minutes, which seemed okay. Fairly nippy, but im going back to petrol from my Golf GT TDI (115) after 2 years! I'm worried that i will miss the torque even though the tsi will be quicker on 0-62mph.

Just want to know what are your opinions? Does anyone have a 1.4 tsi in birmingham who would care to take me for a spin??

I'm in Leicester and I'm wanting to go from 1.4TSI to 1.6TDI!

I'm only getting 380miles per tank, and i do alot of miles....thinkin the diesel would have been better now

If your not bothered about the increased fuel costs then definitely the 1.4tsi! Its faster.

Having the 1.6TDI and being my first diesel, with the more torque I was expecting to be able to put my foot down and get acceleration pretty much anywhere. But really there is nothing below 1700rpm. And because the car wants to ride along at 1300rpm, if you want to accelerate, it normally means dropping down a gear.

Anyway, you will have the DSG so it does all that, I'd say 1.4TSI.

Performance and characteristics of the tdi will be as you have now, but one heck of a lot smoother and refined. Tsi may have a little better pick up below 2k revs but as you already drive a diesel then your driving style has probably adapted to the power delivery character anyway. You'll get at least 10mpg extra from the tdi and delivery times are shorter than a tsi.

if money isn't an issue why not go for a 2.0 Tdi 140 - if it's torque you want it has it by the truckload !

Ah but i am restricted to only the 1.4tsi or 1.6tdi on this scheme. I would have loved to have the 2.0tdi, but unfortunately i can't.

I keep reading the Tsi is not so great on fuel, but if i am commuting 70-80% motorway 20-30%, i think i'd expect to achieve more than 380 miles to a tank of £55?

There's notmuch between then which is why noone is pushing one over the other. What about the A3 as I was surprised the prices were almost the same as the golf?.

    Hi
can't comment on the performance / fuel consumption of either I'm afraid. I had originally been keen on the TSi having read great reviews, but the dealer didn't have one so persuaded me to have a go in the 2.0 diesel - rest is history.
what he did say was that although the TSi was quick, it was quite peaky and you had to work it quite hard to get the full performance, which presumably hits fuel consumption. I'm sure there will be TSi owners out there who can give the benefit of their experience. all the best

Thats half the fun of a small turbo charged engine though surely? High revs etc

agree entirely - that's why I was interested in it ! - my comments were in respect of Samiur's concerns over fuel consumption

however as I mentioned in my earlier post the torque that the 2.0 diesel delivers would take some beating
