I've driven my Mk6 TSI for six months now, and I seem to be constantly aware of the niggles, they build up so much, I'm starting to regret the purchase...

To be fair, I love VWs, I've driven a Polo TDI, two Beetles, and three Golfs for about three months each (wife worked for VWAudi Group).

I had my own niggles about each, but none as much as the current one...

I must preface this by stating that I'm a 'sensible' driver, I'll be the one you sit behind in heavy traffic, leaving a large gap, and slowly closing it to keep traffic moving, I'm also the fellow who you overtake / undertake in order to sit at the next set of traffic lights because it looks like I'm never going to get there (I always do but you don't care because you're in front now).

Preface/rant over, back to the car.

    1. The breaking in traffic... due to my driving, if I'm moving slowly (10 - 20kph), I find that no matter how gently I apply the brake, because of the engine braking, and I suspect the non-rollback engine management, I'll glide until about 5kph, then a sudden halt, extremely annoying... but possibly not if you're a heavy braker.
P.S. I did find that dropping into neutral alleviated the problem, so it looks like it's the engine pushing too hard while braking.

    2. Accelerating from a stop... again due to my particular style of driving, I can feel the supercharger/turbo kick in lurching from about 10kph+ I start off at a sedentary pace, and am launched into rocket style take off which is not pleasant, but I'm (still) getting used to it.

    3. The heating/cooling.. living in Australia, I understand the need to have an efficient cooling method.. this works very well, however, believe it or not sometimes it gets cold, and requires heat... there seem to be two settings 26C which feels mildly warm, and MAX, which feels like it's launched me into summer... annoying.

    4. Recycled air... Why oh why do I have to suck in someone’s exhaust fumes for five minutes every time I get in the car because the recycled air has auto-offed itself!? I know it's a safety issue so we don't all die of <stupidity> breathing our own carbon dioxide and falling asleep, but do we really have to pay for others inability to open a window after an hour’s driving? I would pay someone real money if they could come up with an option to keep the last setting I had on the climate control.
P.S. It could just be me, but the 'auto' option kicks in when only the most pungent of smells has already filled the car.

These are the only things which annoy me, I'm very happy with the car otherwise, I'd be grateful if anyone else has had these experiences, and may have found a solution.

You don't say whether you have a manual or DSG semi-automatic car, or am I being thick?

Regarding item 1 its a feature of modern fuel injection systems, and is a combination of the antistall feature which increases revs if the engine is labouring below 1k revs, and the fact that when applying the brake it 'disconnects' the action of the throttle.

Whilst i don't notice the antistall when i'm driving my Porsche, anthing but very mild application of the brake pedal cuts the accelerator. Its a very fine line applying a bit of left foot braking and keeping the throttle available.

As for 2. i've not driven a TSI but the sudden rush to me doesn't sound like the way the TSi should work, i was under the impression the supercharger gave almost 100% availablity until the turbo was able to take over. Perhaps you have an issue ? You could disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reset the ecu, over time they do adapt to your driving style but you could be driving it permanently in an area where the standard mappign is struggling for parameters ?

Can we establish whether the OP has manual or DSG?

Sorry, I meant to say DSG, otherwise I suppose I'd just dip the clutch when stopping.

My friend, with a 2 yr old Jetta with a DSG system, has always experienced problems with jerkiness and inability to pull away smoothly. Recently, under warranty he's had some work done to try to ameliorate these problems.
Mind you, some of these problems MAY have been exacerbated by his rather heavy footed driving style, which a DSG system might expose!

I've grown accustomed to all the annoyances of the car, and they no longer bother me. Even the shiny knob by the driver's window is now an after thought.

I suspect after going on some 500+ mile trips and having such a nice country side to look at here in Scotland, there are better things to do and see than stress over little things.

However, if I had to pick on something, it would be that the ability to hook up my iPod directly to the stereo was removed by the DAB feature (which I never cared for). I can still listen to music off my iPod using the 3,5mm connection, but it would be awesome if I could control it, too.

That has changed on more recent models - I have DAB and proper ipod docking.

I've never noticed 1 and 2 but I'm guessing you have a DSG, whereas I have a manual.

I've never noticed 3 either (I live in Brisbane).

Yes, I've noticed 4 (i.e. it switched of the recirculate setting) but it doesn't bother me.
