Luggage compartment light not working

I own a 2003 Passat, which is problem free.... apart from the Luggage compartment light, which does not work.
Ive had the bulb checked, and that works fine, so then i set about trying the boot switch... but cant find it anywhere.
Has anyone got any pointers as how to solve the problem ?
Can anyone help me locate the switch ?

On a brighter note, on friday, me and the missus... plus 3 ankle biters are leaving (we live near Poulton-le-Fylde) to drive to Zante. I know its a long way, but i know the car is a great one (2003 tdi 130 sport).

We are gonna drive to Dover, sail to Calais, and on through Switzerland and Italy... where we will sail down the adriatic, to Patra (greek mainland), and finally, a short ferry to Zante.
We are gonna roam around France on the return home.

Ive looked up all the driving requirements for the countries i'm driving in, but if anyone has any extra advice, please reply !!!

The "switch" is within the boot lock mechanism and is notorious for playing up.

My light works after a jiggle of the cables - I'd trace them (the wires) back as far as you can just to rule out the simple/obvious things first before you start attacking the microswitch.

You don't say whether you have a saloon or an estate.

Good luck on the drive down to Zante - I've been a few times and it's beautiful. Not sure I'd fancy driving there though, those locals are nuts!

thanks for the info.
my Passat is a saloon, although i did want an estate, i just couldnt find one (boy would an estate come in handy for the next 3 weeks !!!) had to be the sport model... hence the saloon.

Anyhoo... as that is the only problem with the car, i s'pose i'll just have to learn to live with it, not a problem tho, seeing as i regularly get 60mpg. I even managed 70mpg (travelling at a constant 60mph over 70 miles)
have you heard anyone else achieve similar figures ?

i didnt used to obsess like that over previous cars... its just that good !!!

I'm not bothered about driving in zante, as ive been there 21 times (ive got friends out there) I know the roads really well.
i'm slightly concerned about italy tho... ive been told they are mental drivers, rarely stopping at red lights, junctions...etc
