My wife has a 2005 MK 5 1.6 FSI. When it rains overnight water is dripping down from the interior light / mirror thingy, and pooling in the gear lever gaiter, and dripping on the front seats when cornering.

The windscreen is the original, car bought new by the father in law.

Apart from filling the gap at the top of the screen with silicon bath sealant, has anyone got any ideas, or seen this before? Seems such an unlikely place to have a leak.

    Ta.

I have seen it a few times before, the ideal thing to do is remove the windscreen and apply new sealant, which is a time consuming job, with the risk of breaking the sreen, when removing it.So the short cut is do do as you mentioned, but do not use silicon.

What would you suggest? I thought silicon would be OK, as there are no rubber bits up there for it to react with.

Silicon is not a good idea to put on paint work. There are non silicon based windscreen sealants which can be purchased.

had the same issue. Windscreen not fitted correctly. Only leaked in extreme conditions i.e pressure washer.

Remedy- i was lucky enough to pick up a stone chip thus new windscreen the same day that i was fitting the towbar. The fitter could clearly locate the point of ingress.

I suspect this must be the case, the out-laws always garaged the car, so never noticed. I must say we've never had such a poorly built, low quality car. Where do VW get their "quality" image from? Not MKV Golfs that's for sure.
