    Hi
I am looking for some advice/reassurance.
To me the new A4 2.0 tdi is a fantastic car,I love the styling, the fuel figures, the whole Audi presence of the car, its a great family car, lots of
    electronics, etc

I am on the verge of purchasing a mid to late 2008 diesel model.

Whats holding me back is I am seriously concerned about the various articles I have read about their oil usage.
I drive a Japaneese jeep, it wouldnt take a cupfull of oil between 4500k intervals , it has 96k on the clock.

The oil question is my main worry, and the electronic handbrake does it give trouble, or is there an issue with it that owners have experienced.
    Thanks Guys

    Hi redbay,

I have a 6 month old B8 2.0TDI 170 saloon and have just passed 5000 miles. In that time it has not used any oil (according to the electronic "measuring stick"). It has averaged 50mpg and the electronic handbrake has given no problem. Is it a good car? A resounding yes.

I also have an 8 year old 2.5 TDI quattro that I have had from new. In the 54,000 miles it has covered, it has never used any oil between services. It has also been extremely reliable to date and has averaged 35mpg. The odd little thing is starting to need replacing, but I consider it to be much better than the average. When clean, people think it is about 2 or 3 years old. There is not a mark on it.

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    TAF

My B7 (old shape) 2.0 Tdi (old engine) drank oil like it was going out of fashion. Probably changed the oil between long life services.

My new B8 2.0 TDi 170 has used about 0.5L in 18000 miles. Much better so i wouldnt worry!

No problems with the handbrake though i wish i had ticked the "hill holder" option. Its not a deal breaker though as it is very usable without it. Would just make life a bit easier in multi stories when you stop on a ramp

    Hi,

The previous-generation 2.0TDi PD engines seemed to have a huge thirst for oil (my old A6 required a litre every 3500 miles at first), but from what I've seen so far, the new CR TDi engines seem to be entirely different. My current car has done almost 12000 miles, and the oil level hasn't budged.

    Hope that helps!

Handbrake, no probs, just remember to put your seat belt on or it wont auto disengadge.

    Have had two A4's now.

I covered 126,000 in the 2004 1.9TDi (B6), that was topped up with about half a litre between 18,500 services.

The current 2008 2.0TDi (B8) has covered 37,000 to date and has only used a tiny amount after a 2,000 mile run to Nothern Spain.

I dont think oil consumption is a worry, especially as you'll be paying 1.08 a litre for diesel now !

Auto handbreak and hill hold are great although I have a feeling that you dont get hill hold if you have stop start technology.
