    Hi there,

I own a 2005 A4 2.0 TDi (140) and the oil pressure warning light came on the other day. After taking it into Audi and then to my local independant garage we have worked out the chain drive to the oil pump has worn and is not working.

I only need new sprockets and a chain but audi have said that they are aware of a fault with these items and i have to order a complete new balancer shaft module and pump unit at £750 + VAT just for the part!

Has anybody else had this problem and do you know of a solution that doesnt mean I have to buy the whole unit?! The part number of the sprocket in need is 03G105212D, does any one know where i can get this part??? ANY help on this would be much appriciated!

You have to replace the balance shaft module and pump plus gears and you have no choice but to buy the parts from Audi or a TPS but they cost the same from either.

Thanks crasher. Im VERY ****** off about this! My car is in bits at a local garage and was thinking of ring AUDI customer services to complain in the morning. Do you think its worth asking for a 'good will gesture' from them? im gonna have to get the car down the Audi for the repair by the sounds of things, do you think I could get the balencer shaft module (just part) from AUDI at a cheaper rate and get my local garage to fit it? im just worried about having to pay 2 garages for the same job.....

As the car is in bits I think you have blown it. Also 4 years + and they start to not want to know and if the car was bought outside the network or serviced even once outside they will not be interested. I would be stunned if they gave you the parts cheaper, maybe you will get a trade 15% but that’s it. Another thing, fitting the new crank gear is quite a tricky job involving heating the gear up to a specific temp and fitting it within a few seconds, I don’t like that bit as it is a sod to get off if you mess it up.

hi richard., are you living north or south of the border?

Reason I ask Im living in dublin and i ALWAYS order my dealer parts up north! in enniskillen. Far better for prices and less VAT, I recently got a head gasket and an Oil cooler for the same car as yourself 05, A4 (140) brake, and i saved over 100 € shocking

So if your living down south it would be seriously worth to order up north and save the €

If ya need a phone number for the main dealer in enniskillen let me know

Crasher - I'm now worried about mine going - it's a 54 plate '05 140PS 2.0 TDI. It was a demonstrator so I assume one of the first B7s in the country (and therefore one of the first with the 2.0 TDI).

Are all the early 2.0 affected or was it just a batch (i.e. was there a design fault initially or just a batch of parts that fell below par)?

Is it worth getting the parts changed even when there are no obvious symptoms? The car has just gone over 60k miles.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Richard, i have same problem, I have two choices I think, a complete new balancer shaft module and pump unit at £780 + VAT + about another 800 labour. Alternatively, just repalce the chain, gear and tensioner. Although not long term fix, i.e it will go again as it is a design fault, but at least you could get the garage to re-build withouth having to take the dreaded sprocket off. check out this site.

    http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...20chain%20woes

Note dificulties getting sprocket off, also the guide doc to replace, incidentally I believe this is about same work for chain, bar the sprocket.

Has anyone concidered getting together and tacking Audi and VW on this, it is very common!!. tHEY REFUSED ME GOODWILL STATING NO KNOWN PROBLEM- bullsht

i AM OVER dUBLIN THIS WEEKEND IF YOU WANT TO CALL ME .

Hi Weggie, My problem is that the 'sprocket' has actually gone! im going to change the whole thing. I had a long talk with AUDI customer services about this, they only offered a 10% good will gesture due to the car having 90000 miles on the clock.
More annoying was being told that this is not a common fault, i said that surely the fact that this one part worth £20 is no longer available and being forced to buy a whole modified assembly is admission itself that this is a problem by AUDI!!

im getting it done this week, although the parts are on back order due to a high demand.....
very annoying, especially as i am selling the car at the moment!

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP AND ADVICE ON THIS, ITS GOOD TO KNOW IM NOT ALONE IN MY PAIN!

10% goodwill is pitifull, so i feel sorry for you, an myslef as i am in same boat. Audi know there is a problem and they know if they keep saying know they might get away with it. I would love us 2005 TDi owners all to get together and take them to court, or even the small claims court.

If you are up for it then check out this link and add your storey.

    http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...on%20TDi's

I would like to get anough people together and contact Trading Standards and all the press i can to get this published.

Have you had any qoutes for the conversion? I was quoted about £780 plus vat plus about 11 hrs labour.

I am thinking of chainging tensioner and chain for jsu nowas i dont have that cash, but this willl all have to wait until after exmas.

Who did you contact at Audi UK to get your goodwill? They offered me nothing.

    All the best

    weggie.

PS keep me informed of progress
