I replaced the PAS bottle and tightened up the bracket again before removing the lamp as in mine the back cover on the lamp does not rotate down past the bracket either way.
Then I removed the back cover of the headlamp while the bottle was in place by pushing down a bit to unhook the bottom hinges. I didn't try to remove the back cover completely out of the engine bay ... just left it in there resting on the upper side of the wheel arch area.

Good tip on using a mirror to see the bulb because I just kept feeling around on the back of the bulb until I could make the clasp holder and connection come off.

Apologies for rehashing an old thread. :/

Why can't Audi just put the headlamps on a sliding rail so they pull forward to give more room?
It's really bad design as it is.

I think the dealers remove the lamps. Probably the easiest way by far.....

That would mean taking the bumper off which I doubt they'd do.

Its easy if you just remove the airbox for the drivers side or move the steering fluid reservoir for the passenger side.

Another option is to go up through the inner splash guard.

Having done it, I would not describe it as easy. Getting the clips back on is the difficult part. Not sure that the bumper has to come off. Dealer charged me £20 to change a sidelight bulb. Not bad I felt

I was eventually able to replace the passenger bulb without removing anything except the back panel of the lamp. I've done the drivers side before and the airbox, air filter and plastic air intake pipe does need to come out to get at that side.
All the millions they spend on design and none of 'em can design a slidy-out headlamp.

It's all to do with safety and crumple zones these days, back in my Mondeo days I could change a bulb in 30 seconds, now it takes more like 20-25 mins!

I got fleeced over £50 by the dealer who implied they have to remove the bumper to cx the bulb (main headlight) hence high labour costs. Hope they're telling the truth your honour

When you change the bulbs, you should clear the faults codes logged in the 09 central electronics module.

Even though the dash warning goes out the fault is still logged in the module, some dealers may charge you just to clear this during a service.
