My 1998 1.9 tdi 115 bhp avant with 200,000 miles on it gives an average of 50 mpg. Fast motorway and some town driving. The computer is optimistic, often giving a reading of 200mpg! If only!

I have an A4 1.9tdi avant quattro with 217000 miles on it. Still running sweetly and I can get 55mpg at a steady 70. Computer showing 46mpg at mo from mixed use. My first post by the way.

1997 Avant, AHU engine (90 bhp) done at least 220k, getting around 600 miles from a full tank to when the warning light comes on when the car is level, works out to around 46 mpg for mixed driving

Both my Passat and Audi A6 Avant are long gone but both had the 130hp PD engine and I used to get amazing range out of them.

Below A6 showing 915mile range plus 85.1 driven giving a total tank range of 1,000.1 miles out one tank! (Never did it though)

I got a range of over 1,000 on the Passat as well once or twice as well.

These were out of a 130hp PD engined estare cars as well. You AFN engined boys need to try harder and you should easily break the 1,100 mile tank range barrier!

I have a 2001 Avant 115bhp AJM with 147k miles. Fully serviced. I do a lot of shorter journeys with a few miles on A roads and a few miles on the motorway. I average 44mpg for the usual commute and up to 49mpg on a long motorway journey on the computer readout. Actual mpg figures are slightly below these.

My car never seems to warm up properly but i have had the coolant temperature sensor changed and i think the thermostat is ok. Not sure if this affects the economy. I also have a heavyish right foot!

    2000 Avant 1.9 115 bhp 147k miles

Mixed A - B road or motorway (80-85 cruise) doesn't seem to make a lot of difference. Indicated mpg is 50-55 actual is 48mpg.

As I do 600 a week just going to work and back the 48mpg from the Audi is somewhat better than our 53 plate Cooper S which returned 25mpg But it was a LOT more fun to drive and got me to work 15mins quicker

The wife has the Cooper S now and she's probably getting closer to 40 mpg!!

1999 2.5 tdi quattro avant tiptronic. Averaging around 36mpg combined, can just about squeeze 40mpg on a sedate 70mph motorway run

was hoping for a bit more, but really what can I expect from a v6 heavy estate car with automatic transmission and quattro?
