It’s rare but it does happen, the clocks will need re-matching to the engine ECU which requires a registered version of VAG/COM or similar. If it is post 2003, it may have to go to VW. Try leaving the ignition on for an hour.

If you go into Instruments 17, Adaptation 10, Group 00, read and save, then exit and turn off the ignition for 30 seconds, it may re-adapt but only using a registered version of VAG COM. Otherwise you will have to get the four digit pin code out of the instruments and VAG-COM cannot do this.

The only problem is that im not in England so cant come to you with the car . Or can this be done with out having to go to you. Have been told by some else to disconnect the battery and then connect the terminals (not battery) together 4 20 secs and then start the car as normal. Have u heard of this?

Ok i have done a fault read with vagcom and here are the main points.

    3 faults

    01128- immobilizer pickup coil (D2)
    35-10---- intermittent

    01176-key
    07-00-signal too low

    00779-Outside Air temp sensor (G17)
30-00 open or short to B+

Along with another 4 things but thats all central locking and interior lights. which i have just learned to live with.

The first 2 are causing your problem, when you removed the instruments you may have broken a wire between the cluster and transceiver coil or not put a plug back in correctly, or damaged the socket. The coil emits pulses that the transponder in the key responds to, if the coil is intermittent that would explain the low key signal. Take the shells off the steering column and check.
