I recently had an Audi A3 TDi but had a muppet in an Audi TT go into the side of me at a roundabout and write it off. But every cloud has a silver lining so I can now get the car i've always wanted which is a black Golf GTi. Now there ain't to many about near me at the moment but I've found a couple. One of which is an X reg with 117k on the clock. I think this is an average sort of mileage for the age but how good are the petrol engine's on the Golf GTi's? I know all about the TDi's from the Audi etc but no knowledge of the petrol. Any advice or info would be great.

    Really, don't buy the 2.0. It's not a great engine, you'd be better with a 1.8T.

It would be worth the drive! The 1.8 non-turbo made 125PS - 10 more than the 2.0! The 1.8 whether turbo or non-turbo is a much better engine.

i've got the 1.8T. very robust engine. will keep up with any 3.0L 6cyl engine off the line. up to you i guess, petrol engine has way more accel. you wont get as much mileage tho. i'd say 10L per every 100kms.
