Fault Found: 01170 - Fuel Injection Duration Sensor (G175) 03-00 - No Signal

Help,

Having problems diagnosing a running problem with my 'N' reg Golf Turbo Diesel.

Seems to judder when cruising - first noticed travelling at 50mph after slowing down to go through road works, as soon as I accelerate or put the clutch down the judder stops.

I plugged in my laptop and an OBD reader, which I had from a previous car and installed vag-com, and managed to get into the engine control module test and read the fault codes and got the following read out:

VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N

Control Module Part Number: 028 906 124 A
Component and/or Version: Turbo-Diesel V01
Software Coding: 00127
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000
1 Fault Found:
01170 - Fuel Injection Duration Sensor (G175)
03-00 - No Signal

Have searched high and low for what this means, but can not find out, contacted my local dealer and they said the fault code will not help and I need to book it in for a check.

As noted the car is quite old, has done 170,000 miles, but I am not wanting to spend a fortune at the dealers.

Can anyone help?
