My beloved car has been written off tonight on the way home.

I got rear ended by a car going quite fast.

I was stationary but saw him coming fast in the rear view mirror so braced for the impact. I have to say I don't feel to good so am probably off to the hospital sometime soon. Does anyone know if whiplash comes on after an accident? Now I'm finally home I feel drained and a bit achy. Delayed reaction no doubt as the adrenalin no doubt kicked in at the scene and on the way home.

Testament for how tough these cars we drive as well. Look at the damage on his vs mine.

Just glad the family were not with me.

Any advise more than welcome as this is the first big crash I've been in.

I can relate to you. I was in a very similar accident. Get to the hospital and get checked out.

You WILL be as stiff as a board tomorrow. No work me thinks

You will have to go to numerous doctors ad the insurance company will want you to get checked out also.

Regards the car. If it is a write off, you may get mor for it that what it is worth part ex. I did.

Keep a tally of all costs incurred and reciepts and document everything in writing. Claim the whole lot back. Chris knott isn't it.

Lets see how well they perform as the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

    Glad you are ok.

what is the initial extent of the damage?

i would assume the boot floor and spare wheel well is creased, were you able to manouver it to a safer place or were the rear wheels damaged also?

had whiplash, and can be nasty, can take anything from 24 hours on to kick in, certainly hospital or doctors at least. Glad you walked away thats the mainthing, no doubt your own insurers should cover everything
Make sure that you note everything re docs visits any physio visits, courtesy car the lot.
I got rearended by a 38 semi, took 3 years to settle, compo will depend on how it effects your quality of life, I had to stop rowing a while and so on.
Day they went to court to deny liabilty they settled on the doorstep, after making 2 paltry offers.
If you are ok, longterm you are looking in excess of £3k for personal injury, if it causes ongoing aggro expect more

You will notice in the morning, Go to the hospital and get checked out now, then go to the doctors for the inevitable pain killers.

My car was hit the same way in Feb it took until Aug that I was happy all had been mended with my neck.

The Insurance company will get you a car right away, but I suggest you take a few days off.

I did get compensation for the Whiplash which was nice but i held of settling untili was happy that i was better as you have no recourse once accepted.

But as you say, glad to see your ok and your family wasn't on board.

I didn't say I had 4 months of Physio on my neck, I asked the physio at the time and he said the problem with treating a Whiplash injury is that its inflamation caused by tiny tears in the neck muscles, first thing you need is rest.

I couldn't lift my head of my pillow the day after, even though I was standing at the seen for 4 hours waiting for recovery on the day of the accident.

Col are you ok my good old Pal.Listen you must state your park brake was applied as I suffered a similar accident 3 years ago and this is a key question.

The bugger who hit my vrs pushed my car up in the air, he hit me that hard.

He was not insured and as you have said if my kids were in the car I would have killed him.

Anyway it appears you need another vehicle and it makes sense that the B6 must be considered.

Keep save and if you wish I will let you into a secret.
When asked by the doctor who checked my physical condition I admitted to loss of erections since the accident and fear of queuing traffic as well as developing turret's

Take it easy. Something similar (though not a rear end smash) happened to Mrs QV a few years back, we went down the fast track route which meant you got less but it was resolved earlier, they also paid for the physiotherapy.

Good luck and glad you are not too badly shaken.

Having had this happen to me 6 months ago, I can only concur with everything that has been said.

Get yourself checked out, but the only real cure for whiplash is rest, and lots of it.

If the car's a write off, don't accept the 1st offer, hold out for more, get details of similar cars from Autotrader. I had my offer increased by 30% for what I was initially offered.

Most importantly glad you're ok, and not seriously injured.
Nothing to see here, move along..
