I have recently bought Mk4 1.6SE Auto Golf which is displaying slight misfiring above 2000 rpm when you take your foot off accelarator. It appears fine when engine is under load and you are accelarating but misses when you lift your footwhen driving at between 50 - 60 mph. Any ideas as to what may be causing this. The car was supposedly serviced before I took delivery of it.

This suggests an air inlet leak - probably one of the rubberised connecting pipes around the carb. Try feeling around and bending any such pipes while the engine is idling. Any change in idling behaviour will confirm if there is a leak there.
