At 34500 miles I've just had a first new set of tyres fitted which I think is very impressive. The originals were Bridestones fitted to the 17 inch Estoril wheels on my Golf TDI 140. The tread on the front front tyres was almost at the minimum but on the back there was still plenty of tread but the rubber was disintegrating.
I had them replaced with "like for like" and the garage recommeded Dunlops. I hope they're as good.
I had to have the wheels realigned which cost a few quid. It seems that regular driving across traffic-calming bumps causes the wheels to get out of alignment. If all drivers drove slowly in residential areas the local authorities wouldn't have felt the need to construct those obstacles.
My wife - who's otherwise an excellent driver (without being patronising) - can't seem the see or anticipate the blinking things even though they're always in the same place.

and the same could be said for speed cameras. everyone moans about them being used to raise money, then slow down and dont get caught.

Dunlops are good tyres but they wear down quicker.
