I am finding it very irritating that the folding mirrors do not fold automatically when you switch off and leave/lock the car. Many cars (including the new Fiesta!) will auto-fold when the car is locked - just what you want if you have specced folding mirrors I would have thought.

So if (usuually!) after parking, switching off and locking up I have forgotten to fold the mirrors in, its not just a matter of opening up and turning mirror switch to the folded position - you need the iginition on! At least on the BMW 5 series you can do it without the ignition on.

Maybe this all sounds ultra-lazy but it is really annoying.

Does anyone know if this can be altered with VAG.com?

I have often wondered this, along with why the heated mirrors have their own switch as well. Why can't the heated mirrors just come on with the rear window de-mister? I have never seen it any other way until I bought my Jetta 4 months ago. I'm constantly forgetting I have them on.

Probably the same reason there's no "headlight on" indicator....

There should be at least a switch for disabling the "automatic folding mirrors" If they were that!
I know when I visit my parents and park on their tight driveway I fold my mirrors in while reversing, the last thing I would want when switching the car on or opening the door is the mirrors to come out and rattle against the roughcasted wall!!!

Me - it seems to be a slow logic thing. If it's folded and I've not turned the ignition on or something and I turn the dial and then turn the ignition on - it's all slow and annoying. It's liveable though...

I could comment on some of the comments here but have thought better of it.
Some of you folks ought to have cars that drive themselves!

I have suffered with them not fold on occasion. The first question I asked when I picked it up was do they fold when I lock it, answer from salesman was no.

To be fair I didn't specify it (it happened to be on the car they had in the pipeline) as didn't really see the need. Now I have it would probably select it next time.
